About

Hi and welcome!

My name is Beka and I am an artist based in the North of England.

My work can be described by the term ‘live illustration’, which includes (but is not limited to) live illustration or graphic recording (also known as ‘scribing‘ or ‘visual minutes’), 2D and 3D drawing and illustration, puppetry, prop making, installations and live performance. My work often combines drawings, interactive performance and/or open source technology in surprising ways.

You can see my live illustration portfolio here, over at Conversations Captured: www.conversationscaptured.co.uk

I also work as a multi disciplinary artist in the (often underestimated) outdoor arts sector. I am passionate about public space and play. I love making work for unusual places, creating intimate, interactive pieces that appear in surprising locations and appeal to audiences of all ages and nationalities. Since 2007, I have been the Director, head puppeteer and puppet fabricator at Frolicked: a puppet orientated, outdoor theatre company. Please feel free to head on over to www.frolicked.co.uk to find out more.

I’m based at my studio space at Big Tin Shed in Hebden Bridge, Calderdale.

You can find me on Instagram too, @conversationscaptured for visual minutes, @frolickedtheatre for puppets and @mischiefinthemaking for everything else.

I love puppetry (hello fellow Muppet fans), stop motion animation (thanks to my brother, I was introduced to the late, great Ray Harryhausen), Hitchcock films (Nick Park, you’re also amazing), playing the fiddle and venturing into the Yorkshire hills and woodlands as much as I can.

If you’d like to get in touch, feel free to fill in the form below. I’d love to hear from you.
